This is the main downtown Central Office in the city. The original building is the 4 bay red brick structure at the left in picture 2. The fifth bay was added right after World War II. The new blond brick structure was built in the 1960s and housed the large 1A ESS switch installed there in the early 1980s. The EXchange here was SUnset.

The EXchange there was HIllcrest. The first No 1 ESS HILO switch was installed in this office in the 1970s. Fayetteville is also the home of the Arkansas Razorbacks. This office is unusual in that SBC displayed it’s logo on the building. For the years between taking the title SBC and acquiring AT&T, most SBC Central Offices lost the old Southwestern Bell logo and went without any identifier until the new AT&T logo was adapted.
